While seemingly a birdie hole to start the round, the deceptively short first hole is uphill and typically plays into the prevailing wind. A narrow landing area will penalize errant tee shots. The approach shot from the fairway will come from an uphill or a side-hill lie to an elevated green. Unwary players invariably come up ten yards short of a deceptively placed green that is among the fastest on the course. Sloping back to front, the green penalizes any shots past a forwardly placed pin. Be happy with par and get to the next tee.
